Bombala: Platypus Country

This is the Snowy Monaro at its most relaxed. Wide skies, sleepy townships, and one very good bakery

Head south along the open sweep of the Monaro Highway for a day that trades the everyday for high country air. After a morning tea stop in Cooma we drive to Bombala, where at the Visitors Centre we wander through the heritage railway buildings and shop for local lavender products, before driving slightly out of town for a gentle stroll along the boardwalk to the platypus viewing area to see if we can spot a shy platypus or two. Afterwards we head off for a country lunch in Nimmitabel. Returning home via Cooma, all in a single, easy day trip that has you home before dark.
