We travel to the Riverina in true country style, with morning tea in Cootamundra, a relaxed country pub lunch, then a fascinating guided tour with Agricultural Tours Riverina, discovering how this remarkable irrigation area grows much of Australia’s rice, citrus and wine grapes. On Saturday, tiny Barellan throws open its gates for the Good Old Days Festival — a nostalgic celebration of vintage tractors, working machinery, heritage displays and old-time entertainment. Home for two nights is Griffith, then on the way back, the grand finale — Boorowa’s famous Irish Woolfest and the Running of the Sheep, hundreds of woolly stars charging down the main street.
